What is Shopify Plus?
Compared to other shopping cart systems, Shopify has a wide range of things you can do easily, and at the same time, it also has more depth than other shopping cart systems if you try. However, there are still some things you can't do with the regular plan. Shopify Plus is the plan to meet such needs.
In addition to the three regular plans offered at a fixed monthly fee, Shopify also has a plan for "stores with high transaction volume and large businesses." This is Shopify Plus. While the top regular plan is $299 per month, Shopify Plus is significantly more expensive, costing $2,000 and up. We will explain the difference between this and the regular plans and what you can do with Shopify Plus.
5 things you can only do with Shopify Plus
Compared to the regular plan, there are many more than just five things that can only be done with Shopify Plus, but we have picked out the things that cannot be achieved with the regular plan and for which we receive the most inquiries and questions.
- Checkout screen and function customization
- Site time limit setting (reflecting reservations)
- Workflow automation
- Automatic display of personalized promotions
- Up to 10 websites can be opened per contract
I will explain each function one by one with concrete examples to show what it is and what it can do.
Customizing your checkout page
If you subscribe to Shopify Plus, you will be able to edit the checkout.liquid file. This means that you can customize the checkout page (payment screen) by adding features or changing the display content.
For example, you will be able to do the following:
- Add your own layout, notation and images
- Add your own validation to the address input form
- Addition of delivery date and time specification and subscription purchase options to the delivery information input screen
- Change display content and add processing depending on the destination country or region
Site Time Setting: Launchpad
Even with the standard plan, you can schedule the publication of products and blog posts for a future date and time. However, you cannot set a time limit for things that are often done in conjunction with this, such as replacing banners or changing product prices.
Shopify Plus has its own dedicated apps, one of which is "Launchpad," which allows you to do things like the above that you couldn't do with the regular plan. The following are some examples of how Launchpad can be used:
- Change the price of your products at the start and end of a sale or other event
- Change inventory at event start
- Change the theme (site design) at the start and end of an event
- Locking down your online store for a set period of time before the event starts (to build hype and anticipation)

Business automation: Shopify Flow
Using the Shopify Plus app "Shopify Flow," you can automate tasks that were previously done manually, such as adding tags to order information from specific customers or sending email notifications when a specific product is sold. To create an automation, simply select "triggers," "conditions," and "actions" - no complicated settings or code writing is required. Possible patterns for automating processes include the following:
- Tag your loyal customers
- Flag or cancel high-risk orders
- Send an email or notify Slack etc. when a specific order is received
- Send notifications when stock is low

Automatic Promotion Personalization: Shopify Scripts
Shopify Scripts is an extension that allows you to implement complex discount settings and promotions with multiple conditions that cannot be handled by the discount function available in the regular plan. However, since Shopify Scripts is not an app like Launchpad or Flow, you need to write a script. Below are some specific examples of use.
- Buy 1, get 1 free (BOGO: Buy 1 Get 1 Free)
- Buy ○ items and get ○○ yen/○○% off
- Discounts based on order amount (e.g. 5% off for orders over 5,000 yen, 10% off for orders over 10,000 yen, etc.)
- XX yen/XX% off on first purchase only
- If you order more than x times, you will receive a xx yen/xx% discount
You can operate an additional 9 sites per contract, for a total of 10 sites.
With one Shopify Plus contract, you can open and operate up to nine additional sites of the same brand. There is no additional charge. However, the additional sites must be of the same brand. For example, if the first site is a store for the domestic market, the next one could be a domestic B2B wholesale store, the third a store for Asia, and the fourth a store for North America. It could also be used as a pop-up site for new products or key products.
Other Shopify Plus exclusive features
In addition to the five mentioned above, there are many other features and services that are only available with Shopify Plus.
