The appeal of commerce media as I see it

My name is Saito and I joined the company in May 2021 as an EC consultant. I will no longer be working at the head office, but will be working remotely from Fukuoka. In this article, I would like to summarize what I currently feel is the appeal of Commerce Media and what I think as a working mother of one child.

  • After working at a major e-commerce mall, he has experience at two start-ups.
  • The COVID-19 pandemic gave us a first-hand look at the potential of e-commerce
  • The CEO's enjoyment of the business leaves a good impression
  • Flexible working hours allow you to focus on work even while raising children
  • Absorbing general knowledge about EC and aiming for growth for myself and the company

After working at a major e-commerce mall, he has experience at two start-ups.

First, I'd like to talk about my career. I have worked for three companies. The first one was for a company that runs a major EC mall, where I worked for seven years from graduation, and experienced new store opening sales and EC consulting. My work consisted of sales to newly opened shops and then consulting to increase the sales of the shops.

The second company I chose was a venture company. I experienced a wide range of work, including sales to wholesale fish to restaurants, marketing to increase purchases, and handling shipments at a call center. I then moved to a third company, which was also a venture. I stayed there until the end of March 2021, and was involved in energy-related businesses such as new power companies and promoting digital transformation in the industry.

The COVID-19 pandemic gave us a first-hand look at the potential of e-commerce

While I was searching for a new job, I connected with Izawa, the CEO of the same major EC mall company, on Facebook, and I asked him to tell me his story. This is because I felt that EC had expanded greatly during this COVID-19 pandemic, and that this year had seen a big gap between companies that were working on it and those that weren't. I was once again drawn to the industry, which spreads products nationwide through EC.

Although I have a background in shopping malls, I believe that shopping malls are merely one channel, and that the basis is to sell products in-house. That is why Commerce Media, which provides comprehensive services for all EC channels, seemed attractive to me.

In addition, the company is also trying its hand at retailing, so the fact that it is a consulting company where I can get a feel for the field was also a deciding factor for me to join. I had always wanted to try retailing, and wanted to be involved in cultivating customers in one business and directly communicating the merits of the product, so I wanted to learn from that perspective as well.

By the way, the big word that first attracted me was "Strength in Shopify". It's gaining popularity not only in Japan but also around the world, and I personally wanted to gain knowledge about consulting using Shopify, so I thought it was great to be involved in that as well.

The CEO's enjoyment of the business leaves a good impression

My biggest impression of Commerce Media is that Izawa seems to enjoy working on EC. I think it's especially important for a venture company to see how motivated the president is and how much fun he seems to have doing it, and in that respect, I think he was ideal and left a good impression.

Izawa seems to have a strong desire to sell his own products, and the joy he feels in delivering them to end users and receiving positive feedback is clear from his talk. I felt that it was wonderful to sense the potential of his own business and be able to convey that excitement to others.

Flexible working hours allow you to focus on work even while raising children

I have a one-year-old child who started nursery school in April, and I'm back from what is called maternity leave. Still, I've decided to work remotely from Fukuoka so that I can perform to the best of my ability. I'm really grateful that they were able to give me advice that suited my lifestyle.

I would like to work full-time, but it's not easy when you have a one-year-old child. The nursery school might call you back, and especially when it comes to changing jobs, there aren't many companies that will allow you to do so.

In that respect, Commerce Media said it was OK to have a flexible work style, for example, if I take a short break during the day, I can make up for it at night. This way of thinking is very in line with the times, and I think it's a reassuring environment for women who want to work hard .

I really like working. I like learning new things and growing as a person, and I have a goal of starting my own business (in the agricultural industry) in the future, so I want to steadily build my career.

Absorbing general knowledge about EC and aiming for growth for myself and the company

One of my future goals is to quickly acquire knowledge about EC in general and become a specialist. My background is focused on shopping malls, so I would like to absorb more general knowledge.

The other reason is that I want to help the company grow as much as I can. From now on, we will be focusing on cross-border ventures and new initiatives, so I want to help as much as I can.

First of all, I intend to learn from the people in the company and eagerly acquire knowledge and skills. I believe that Commerce Media is an environment where such a desire to grow can be put to good use.
